An Artist I Admire – Leland Bell

While I was on vacation, I visited M'Chigeeng, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. While there I toured the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation and the local church Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. The works of Leland Bell were displayed in both locations.

I have seen his works in books before, but this was the first time I had the chance to see them in person. His work is based on the traditions and stories of the Anishinabek (Ojibwe/Chippewa) people. The Circle is important in his work. "The Circle is what my paintings are based on. The rounded lines are deliberate ... what I create is something simple and serene and peaceful.",%20Leland
